Having a habitual practice of proper hygiene, we can reduce the risks of getting ill or infected with a virus. Cleanliness plays a major role as a shield from unwanted threats of an infection:

1. Wash and dry your hands regularly

To ensure real efficacy, make sure to wash your hands with proven antiviral soap which is available in every store and after washing your hands, you need to use dry towel or tissue to dry your hands. Using damp, wet, and used clothes might further increase the risk of spreading germs and viruses. Damp and used cloth towels are said to be a breeding ground for germs.

2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth when in public places

Some of our body parts are sensitive to the virus. Eyes, nose, and mouth are entry points for germs and viruses into your bodies. While a thorough hand washing should neutralize the threat of infection, you should still avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with your hands, especially when in a public place. You can use a tissue if you want to wipe the sweats in your face and throw it away afterward.

3. Wear an N95 mask to protect yourself and others

N95 respirator masks can use similar filtration material as surgical masks but usually with more layers and a much tighter fit. N95 masks are supposed to fit tightly to the face and block out most particles. A properly made and fit N95 will stop 95% of particles.

Interestingly enough, not all N95 respirators are made for the same purpose. Not every respirator is built to filter out disease-causing pathogens. The "N" means the mask is built to catch non-oily particles, It does not mean it will work on everything, but it will protect against viruses like the Coronavirus.

Good news: You can actually protect yourself as much as possible by wearing an FFP3 or N95 respiratory mask: Get your N95 respirator masks for the whole family today

4. Use a STERILIZED tissue to cover your mouth & nose when sneezing or coughing

Make sure to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue, when coughing or sneezing. BUT: Ordinary tissues are often manufactured under unsanitary conditions; and can be laden with germs and viruses. Given tissue, products touch your eyes, nose, mouth, and other intimate parts of your body, it is important to choose your tissues wisely! ONLY use sterilized tissue products. The word “Sterilized” should appear prominently on the tissue package.

5. Wear a DISINFECTANT face mask

Look for disinfectant or self-sterilizing face masks that are specifically designed for infection prevention, like the N95. Avoid touching the mask with your hands while it’s on your face and remember to wash your hands after removing the mask from your face.

6. Choose your home and personal care products wisely

When buying products for personal or home care, make sure to choose reputable products that put emphasis on anti-viral properties, that are sterilized and promote health & hygiene as their key benefit. Disinfection is the best prevention of infection.

7. Practice good food safety when preparing and cooking raw meat

Use different chopping boards and knives for raw meats and cooked foods, wash your hands between handling raw food and cooked food, ensure the meat is not undercooked prior to consumption, once cooked, place your prepared food on sterilized paper towels to reduce the risk of surface borne infections.

8. Avoid sharing eating utensils

While common in some cultures, the sharing of eating utensils, such as cups and cutlery can lead to the spread of germs and viruses. Therefore, please avoid sharing these utensils with other people.

9. Actively strengthen your immunity to fight off pathogens

While all the above preventive tips are robust and effective, there is no 100% guarantee that you or your loved ones may not be infected. There is no substitute for having a strong and healthy immune system, which can be achieved by (a) proper nutrition rich in vitamins and minerals, (b) reducing smoking, (c) reducing alcohol consumption, (d) regular exercise.

10. Keep your distance!

If you need to travel by train or bus to your job, keep as much distance to the other passengers as possible. Try not to touch door handles, seats, staircase railings, hand straps by bus or train, etc. Wipe your hands as much as possible during travel and wash them with soap when you arrive at your office. Just get used to it and it will protect you!
