What material are medical gowns made of?
Disposable scrubs are usually made of non-woven materials. Non-woven materials are fabric-like materials made from staple fibers (short) and long fibers (continuous long), bonded together by chemical, mechanical heat, or solvent treatment. Some nonwoven materials lack sufficient strength unless densified or reinforced by a backing. In recent years, non-woven has become an alternative to polyurethane foam.

The main fabric material for disposable scrubs is SMS. It is soft, comfortable, and breathable. Three layers of spun-bond polypropylene ensure extraordinary flexibility, providing tough abrasion resistance and cloth-like feel, and two layers of melt-blown polypropylene form an efficient barrier against bacteria, as an exceptional microbial barrier.
