Face Masks for Cyclists Recommended By FluShields
Édouard Louis Joseph, Baron Merckx, or known as Eddy Merckx, a former Belgian professional road and track bicycle racer who is known to be the most successful rider in the history of competitive cycling once said that:
“The race is won by the rider who suffer the most”
Similar to other sports, cycling does require great physical strength and consistent road training to be able to ready your whole being while rocking on wheels. Mountains, curvy roads, and uphill tracks are complicated routes where most cyclists engage themselves more to practice their road skills as well as challenge themselves in courses and obstacles that will test their pain and coping endurance.
Cycling is a sport that also requires massive and proper breathing intake. Stirring down your pedals on long, wide roads will surely activate your oxygen consumption. Since cycling is a sport done outside houses and cyclists travel from one place to another, you can't avoid being exposed to particles such as dust, smoke, dirt, and bad pollution. And now comes Corona on top and is added to the mix, making the whole breathing intake actually even more dangerous.
Good news: You can actually protect yourself as much as possible by wearing an N95 respirator mask: Get your N95 respirator masks for the whole family today.
Cycling is a great sport and has a lot of benefits to your health. Some are listed below:

- Cycling improves the growth of bones and muscles honing a good strength and amount of flexibility by pedaling bike pedals and reaching hand bars.
- Continuous pedaling of bike pedals can improve joints development for less pain and efficient body movement.
- Sitting up straight is a requirement in biking to be able to balance yourself and to develop good posture and coordination.
- Cycling burns fats and takes out excess salt and body waste through perspiration making you fit and detoxified.
- Cycling is a good unwinding activity that decreases stress levels and promotes good emotional stability.
- With its certain amount of benefits, cycling can prolong life and lowers the risk of an individual being engaged with health complications and ailments.
Cycling is way more eco-friendly and health-inclined helpful than spending bills on expensive car fuels and engines for daily use - that's for sure. Thus, the downfall about cycling is that the cyclist is potentially exposed to bad accidents on the road and to all the pollution and dust around him - including COVID-19, especially if cycling in a group or exercising in fitness-studios on stationary bikes.
To mitigate risk factors, cyclists should have protective gear and shields to protect themselves. Helmets and cycling gloves are crucial in order to protect your head and hands in a possible accident on the road.

Does wearing a sports face masks affect the cycling performance?
According to a recent study from the University of Saskatchewan wearing sports face masks does not affect performance! The study involved physically active and healthy participants, 7 men and 7 women. Each participant went through three identical cycling tests on a stationary bike, once wearing a surgical face mask, once wearing a 3-layer cloth face mask, and once with no face mask at all. The researchers controlled for the effects of diet, previous physical activity, and sleep during the 24 hours prior to the test.
The study concluded that wearing a face mask during exercise had no negative effect on blood or muscle oxygenation, heart rate, perceived exertion, and exercise performance in young, healthy people.
The findings are of importance because they indicate that people can wear face masks during intense exercise with no detrimental effects on performance and minimal impact on blood and muscle oxygenation. This is also important when fitness centres open up during COVID-19 since respiratory droplets may be propelled further with heavy breathing during vigorous exercise and because of reports of COVID-19 clusters in crowded enclosed exercise facilities.
Aside from respiratory protection make sure to refrain from touching objects such as rocks, rails, chairs, store counters, and metal bars. To ensure cleanliness throughout, one has to make sure to use anti-viral sanitisers and hand wipes to remove soils, bacteria and virus build-up, and unwanted dirt in your hands.
